About

Joseph A. Jones & Co. Solicitors

Our history and values

History of the firm

It’s nice to know there’s a little history behind the legal firm you choose. And at Joseph A. Jones & Co we’ve an enviable pedigree. Established on the sound principles of honesty, integrity and quality by Yorkshireman Joseph A. Jones in 1949, the firm continues to remain true to those ideals.

Joseph’s eldest daughter Sue Hodgson joined her father’s firm in 1970 and maintained the family approach well into the 21st century, retiring from her role as Senior Partner in 2017. Sue has been instrumental in creating the friendly and professional atmosphere of Joseph A Jones & Co and we will miss her greatly. However she will still be popping into the office regularly and we will make sure that her legacy continues for many years to come.

At Joseph A Jones & Co, we pride ourselves on giving our clients the best possible service and advice. In order to further improve the service you receive we have recently created two specialist departments. The Private Client Department and the Property Department. The teams are supported by various legal and administrative professionals, each delivering specific skills to ensure that Joseph A. Jones & Co continues to build on its carefully built heritage.

Our values

What matters to us

Trust

They say that trust is earned. And over the last seventy years at Joseph A. Jones & Co we’ve certainly earned it. Dealing exclusively with Wills, Trusts, Probate, Inheritance Tax Planning, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Property issues we’ve carefully built a reputation for legal expertise blended with care, consideration and friendliness.

People feel comfortable with our unique brand of legal guidance. They return to us because they feel they can talk to us without watching the clock. Because they feel they can listen to us without having to refer to a legal dictionary. And becasue they simply like the way we run our business.

Confidentiality

We are under a duty to act in your best interests and to keep your personal and business affairs absolutely confidential at all times.

However, there is one exception to this. If we become aware or have reason to suspect that a client or anyone concerned or associated with the client intends Money Laundering or is involved in other financial or tax irregularities then we must and indeed have legal duty to report the client and/or associates to the National Crime Agency. Further, we may not be allowed to tell the client that they are being reported.

Other than this important exception, please be assured that we will only reveal confidential information if we are legally required to do so.

Continuity

Since Joseph A. Jones opened his doors in 1949, we have been providing trusted legal advice to countless families who in turn have recommended us to their children and grandchildren, friends and neighbours.  We are an established and solid presence in Lancaster.  We are part of the local fabric and intend to remain so for many years to come.
